    Sony World Photographic Awards launches

    The inaugural World Photography Awards (WPA), plus World Photographic Academy, sponsored by Sony, were launched this morning in London. From today and until the end of January 2008, photographers will be able enter their images, with the annual event culminating in a 5-day exhibition plus awards evening in Cannes in April. Ref: 4TFD

    This is an attempt at a still photography version of the Cannes Film Festival. I think it's a shame that amateurs can't go for the overall photo of the year award, though.
