The D3 looks like a great camera in many respects, but have they had to make compromises, and are they just going to annoy the Nikon Pros with DX lenses. Correct me if I'm wrong but if you want FF then you can't use a dx lens. If you use a dx lens you only get 5mp.

Its definitely designed for speed, and is going to appeal to the press guys and sports shooters, great. They have even brought out some lenses for them. I still can't see many of these guys being too fussed about live view, and scene recognition. However, for what its worth I like the idea of a virtual horizon, its something along these lines I've wanted for a while, wonder if it has an audible warning too, for when you are using it over your head with this live view

I think we have covered LIve View, Stephen

Scene Recognition looks interesting, though - it serves in various ways, one of which is to identify areas of a picture that are best to base the estimate for neutral gret for auto white balance on, so AWB ought to be more accurate.

It uses a supplementary 1005 pixel sensor that also performs the metering. It uses a diffraction grating for very accurate colour separation (more accurate than using colour filters, as in a normal Bayer colour sensor) - just like expensive colour colour photometers used for colour monitor and print profiling.

It's not a scene mode thingy like on consumer cameras!

It's interesting that Nikon estimates it has nearly half the pro market and is poised to exceed that milestone. I had thought that Canon was still quite far ahead in that sector...

I imagine their figures are Worldwide, certainly my perception is that in the UK Canon are well ahead, though I have no hard facts to support this. Frankly though, for the average pro tog it's of little consequence

I recall that the figures were for Europe.
