Congrats on your POTD Pops. A very impressive effect. You are right about the use of image editors, but frankly I'm not creative enough to come up with ideas like this Oh and I didn't understand a bit of the method

I'll have to do a PaintShop Pro to Photoshop translation

And Ron can do a Microsoft or Picasa version too!

It can be a very effective method of presenting a picture imo and I reckon Pops did an excellent job with this one!

I reckon would be ideal if Ian would create a tutorial video to demonstrate how it's done. Perhaps he might also include a commentary in the video and post it as a tutorial in software solutions.

              Nice one. Thanks Ian!

Congratulations Pops. I really liked this photograph when I first saw it a little while ago.

The idea can be used for lots of things including greetings cards.

Glad you made POTD you deserve it with all your good bird pictures as well.

Ok I never shy away from a challenge, so here goes.
Select and edit your picture as you would normally, ie adjust saturation, contrast or what ever you feel needs doing. Here is the image I'm going to work on. Taken by my wife with a Sony P51 2mb camera.

Now with the selection tool draw a box around the area you want to apply this affect to. Once selected copy to clip board. Now invert selection and apply conversion to B&W and add some blur.

Invert selection again and select the transparency tool and apply 100% even to get a clear panel in your image.

Paste the original back over this and adjust size to leave a small margin like so.

Save and job done. If you have Microsoft's Digital Image do give it a go.

                    Nice tutorial there, Ron.

Many thanks for that - much appreciated.
