Hi Jo, it's a pet hate of mine - ratings that can't be objectively compared. What does 78% really mean? Is 4/5 or 4 stars out of 5 the same as 80%? Some magazines rate out of 5 or out of 6 or out of 10.

The traffic light system (which is loosely based on the Which? system of red and black symbols) makes the most sense to me.

However, as many organisations insist on percentage or star ratings, we do throw those in at the end, for 'compatibility'.
