Simply surprised especially at the combination of the twe firms. Hoya is a relatively well known company but I wonder who imagined that Pentax would be merged by Hoya. Financially the both will be better off, I guess.
It seems to me that Pentax has changed drastically in the past few years, especially since the development of new dSLR K series. Amazingly quick and brave in making forward looking decisions. It was a typical Japanese company in the traditional sense until recently (well it looks like so to me). Except Canon (and Oly to some extent), all others have been slow in a sense. I mean, traditional camera companies.
Congraturations Pentax and hopefully you will have more financial/man power resources for developing attractive dSLR's.

Seems like the photographic and oil businesses have something in common -- merger fever. Survival seems to drive the photo business, whereas it's just cheaper to buy oil by buying companies than to go find and develop new oil reserves. Wish the new company well -- hope it can survive the seismic shifts taking place in the photography business.
