I've tried voting 3 times & it comes up with an error message saying something to the effect that my e-mail address to mailing list has incorrect format! The form/page for voting does not ask for e-mail address, so I don't know why it won't work for me!
Ian, I've tried voting 3 times & error message keeps on saying my e-mail address has incorrect format! Considering the form/page does not request one's e-mail address, I don't know what/why its giving error message!!
to be honest, i think that one reason why the number of votes for the pic of month, photo fix challenge etc is low is due to the requirement of having to supply an email address, especially as on completing the form you go to a signup.php page. i believe it's the newsletter signup, however with there being no opt out i guess a fair number of peeps would be put off by this 'you must supply an email address' and consequently dont bother.
personally, i'm not a fan of supplying an email address (on any site) for some 'random' voting / feedback when i have no idea what will happen with that address afterwards, privacy policy or not.

But Jocelyn, it does request your email address, maybe if your page isn't showing this field this could be the reason you are getting the error.

In the case of the photofix challenge competition, there is a small prize. How would the winner be informed if there was no email address?

i thought that the person who did the photofix would get the prize, not the voter?
i don't like supplying email addresses when it is not clear at the time of submission what the address will be used for. again, this is in general, not just on this site.

Fair enough, I'd forgotten the winner was voted for
Most of us these days have a free gmail, or yahoo mail, or hotmail type of mailbox that we can use that can be completeley separate from our normal email.
We ask for the email address simply to help avoid multiple entries and sometims to be able to contact the person if a prize has been earned.
If anyone has a better suggestion, I'm always happy to consider these.

Hi Jocelyn, we have tested it here and not found any problem. Very often the advice to switch on compatibility mode in Internet Explorer 8 solves problems if you are using that browser. It's the button with a crack through it next to the page refresh button.
