  • Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition statement

Here is a summary or excerpt from an article that has just been published on DPNow:

A press statement from the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition office at the Natural History Museum regarding the disqualification of the image, the storybook wolf, the 2009 overall competition winner.

The WPotY organisers have responded to some public cynicism about the winning entry. It was a bit too good to be true, it seems.

I was slightly amused at the wording of the statement, referring to the wolf in the picture as a 'model' - I'd like to meet the agent

Photoshop can't be blamed for this one.

It seems some noticed the props from the zoo where it is suggested the pix were taken.

The photographer maintains that he didn't cheat!

          Well he would, wouldn't he!

I remember being rather sceptical about that particular photo when I originally looked at the competition winners. The lighting seemed to me rather too good for a supposed spontaneous shot of a wolf out in the wild.

don't know about props, but wolf experts recognised the wolf as being Ossian, a tame wolf from a zoological park near madrid (from bbc's website).
