  • Brief test: Nikon S1000pj projector camera

Here is a summary or excerpt from an article that has just been published on DPNow:

We've been playing with Nikon's rather amazing new S1000pj compact camera that has a built-in projector. Find out what we thought of Nikon's projector-cam - is it a gimmick or a really useful evolution of the camera?

How much does the idea of a camera with a built in projector appeal to you?

The concept is interesting and I wonder what would happen if it was put into a form with more power, instead of trying to make a pocket sized package. When will we see the docking station again, this time with the projector incorporated. The problem that I can see is that we now have monitors/TVs with better IQ.

A projector reminds me of the (posi-)film days. We used a projector every month at a monthly meeting of a camara group to show some shots taken in the past one month.

I have never used my own projector for more than a decade...

I also think the idea is interesting but do not fully understand its benefits.

but after thinking about it for a while, a projector also reminds me of chatting among people. More association with other people thuru photography might be the concept Nikon has in mind...?

The camera has electric circuits strong enough for projection, I assume?

            Hi Yoshi,
I think the casual social sharing aspect of projected images is still valid. What may come up to counter the old form may be the flexible AMOLED screens which could be passed around or watched collectively.
My projector (poor thing) has not budged from its place on the shelf since we move here in 1998....

I'm sure you're infinitely more intelligent than the new poster who would appear to have registered merely to be insulting. His posting has now been removed so I've also edited your own posting to remove the quote.
