  • Lexar Pro UDMA 600X Compact Flash card review

Here is a summary or excerpt from an article that has just been published on DPNow:

Compared to Lexar's Pro 300x compact flash cards, their new 600x card is definitely faster, but is it actually twice as fast, and will your camera benefit from the increased speed-rating? Important advice concerning card readers is given too.

You mentioned Express cards as an alternative to card readers on laptops. I have one in my Macbook Pro, but was told this week that there are different rated expresscards, ie 16 & 32 bit. I was told that a 32bit card would allow me to download much quicker. Is this true? I'm not even sure what mine is, but I suspect its 16bit. I actually timed downloading a folder of files using a Sandisk EXIII and a card reader compared with the Expresscard. They both seemed the same

Basic Express Cards are actually connected to the USB sub-system in your laptop. There are full-spec PCI Express cards, and Lexar will start selling its own soon and that's the one I mentioned that I'm waiting to try.

Lexar have now provided me with an ExpressCard 34 Compact Flash card reader. I will be testing it shortly. I also have a three year old Delkin ExpressCard 34 reader, but I don't think it actually connects to the PCI Express bus, but to the USB circuitry in the interface (which is supported for compatibility).

        Review coming up soon!
