That's why I am considering the Canon 50D before its discontinued for the 60D which will undoubtedly have a movie mode. I for one do not want it.
I have it on my G10 never been used and never will, not even looked at it out of curiosity.
I must say though, if I wasn't tied into the Canon system, I have six lenses, a 1x4 converter and extension tube, I would be looking at Nikon now.

Patrick, nobody is forcing a movie mode on anyone. You can use it if you want to; you don't HAVE to use it. It's a feature that adds very little to the build cost, and has no impact of the capability of the camera for stills. I can't see why you are so sensitive about this?

Patrick, it seems you are right. I've just got round to investigating the possibility and they are available from Warehouseexpress

        Re: Nikon announces the D300S

Just as an update, I have today taken delivery of a new Canon Ec focussing screen. This has a grid etched onto it, which I'm hoping will assist in keeping the camera level in certain conditions. For anyone who has an interchangeable focussing screen but is somewhat worried about doing it, I can assure you it was a simple to change, they even provide you with a special tool which avoids you having to touch it

Interesting! Do you envisage keeping the screen fitted permanently?

Unless I can come up with a good reason why not to
