Many thanks both, I didn't know Ian was going to use it so its come as a bit of a surprise. We were on the beach at 04.10 to capture these shots, but as they say, no pain, no gain. I would say that without doubt, most of my best pics have been captured in either early morning or evening light

Haha! Now he tells me - it's a sunrise, not a sunset

Congratulations Stephen - great photo. Please tell me, was the sun really this large when you made the shot or have you applied some image wizardry? I can never seem to capture anything that large coming up or going down (far less of the former! )

Hi jojo, there is no PS wizardry. The sun looks that big because I was using a 100-400 lens at the 400 end. This has the effect of altering perspective and foreshortening, which makes the sun look bigger in relation to the boat. Imagine if you had used a wider angle lens the sun would have looked quite small in the frame and you wouldn't get the same effect at all
