    Why hinge the LCD on the base of the camera?

      Almost certainly because of a licensing issue. The orientation of the hinge may well be patented and the Nikon choice may reflect that (cost).

        Hi Ian -

        Interesting.

        However, as you know Anne gets a new Olympus E-30 on her birthday (put away safe until then). That has a much better swivel screen mounted.

              I agree.

              The variable-angle LCD will usher in the use of greater intelligence to the task of image capture--until we can't function without it.
