  • FF Nikon???

Not sure if this is the right place to post.

An exhibition called "studio photo fair" is currently held in Tokyo for two days until today. Usually high end gears are exhibited for pros who mainly take photos at studio. New work flow for digital age seems to be proposed by some exhibitors.
Many studio pros still love medium format film cameras traditionally in this country. (no reproach is intended against film - just could not find proper expressions - I like both film and digital)

What I think interesting is participants(exhibitors). Among others, Fujifilm, Mamiya, Epson, Canon, Nikon, Nanao (LCD) ... I learned Nikon took part in for the first time in the past three years.

I guess some people would read it as an indication that Nikon is surely aiming at new markets (for them) where medium and larger format cameras have been traditionally prevailing.

Do you think Nikon is continuously doing market reserach for larger sensors such as FF (x1.0) or near FF(x1.1?)?

Nikon has been number one dSLR manufacturer since Dec. last year (at least until April - in Japan, though) - and is cash rich now to sustain R&D?

On the other hand I can not confirm Pentax name among them.

    Re: FF Nikon

I think it's fairly well documented that if Nikon goes FF, it won't be through the use of its existing lens mount; it's simply too narrow. Canon's is a lot wider and even then it is regarded as a compromise for full frame. If Nikon goes for a completely new FF DSLR platform, then I can see the sense there. It would, effectively, be a medium format quality DSLR, mainly for use by studio and landscape photographers. These guys don't need a very wide range of lenses, so the investment in the system wouldn't need to be that great. Existing flash and other Nidon D-series accessories could remain compatible too.

    What do you think?
