Photokina - Samsung GX10 10MP DSLR and new lens line up

Pentax had the luxury of announcing their K10D DSLR before Photokina. But Samsung not only launched their new GX10, which is very closely related to the Pentax K10D, during the show, but clearly demonstrated their intention of competing in the DSLR lens market as well, under their brand relationship with Schneider. Just look at the line up of lenses below, including some fast zooms and a fisheye. All of these lenses will be of interest to Pentax users too, of course.
Another, diplomatically but urgently conveyed, message was that the GX10 is not just a re-badged Pentax K10D. Samsung wants the world to realise that its own technical R&D savvy went into the joint development that resulted in the K10D. The GX10 also has more of a character of its own, with some aesthetic differences that go beyond previous GX models when compared with their Pentax cousins.
But all the key features are shared, including the moving sensor 10 megapixel anti-shake or image stabiliser system, which works with any lens attached, 22-bit colour image processing, native DNG RAW support, support for future supersonic AF motor lenses, the external instant RAW mode button and all the new control and mode options.
The Samsung GX10 and the Pentax K10D certainly put the K-mount SLR platform in the strongest position it has enjoyed for many a year.
