“(BUSINESS WIRE) SEATTLE, WA—May 14, 2007—Leading online retailer Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) today announced it has acquired www.dpreview.com, the web’s most comprehensive site for digital camera information and reviews. Founded in 1998 by Phil Askey, dpreview.com provides unbiased reviews and original content regarding the latest in digital cameras, and offers a host of features and forums designed to make it easy for consumers to find the camera that’s right for them. With its unique voice and in-depth technical reviews, dpreview.com draws millions of unique visitors each month.”
Yes, it's an interesting development. Understand Phil Askey (and Simon Joinson) is staying and the deal should allow them more time to develop the site, which has remained quite consistent in design for nearly 10 years.

I take my hat off to Phil for what he has achieved. His ruthless business manner has made him some enemies, but dpreview is head and shoulders above the competition and I personally believe he deserves a huge amount of credit for what he has achieved. I also know that on a personal level, away from business, he's a good guy to know, along with his lovely wife, Jo.

Some of the forums are a bit (shall we say) 'lively'.
