      That shot immediately caught my eye the first time I saw it. Dave is a master at that sort of shot and has been very forthcoming with guidance. I still have a LOT to learn. It's an excellent choice for Picture of the Day.
      If you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much room.

        Thanks both!

        The underexpose by 1/2 a stop trick performs 2 functions. It isolates your subject from the background and also does a good job of hiding minor panning imperfections
        Of course it highlights bad focus as well, but those shots never get any further than the check look.
        I was quite pleased with this series as the extra tech, albeit quite basic, involved in getting the shot made it personally more rewarding. I'm one of that strange breed that enjoys working for a shot than lucking into it. Ian may well remember my reaction to the sunset tern shot from a number of years ago. Lol.
