    Thanks Ian!
This is an honour! I started my photographic journey on this website back in 2004 and learnt most of what I know from the various members here over the next few years before my professional responsibilities started restricting my visits here. For me to have a photo chosen as 'the photo of the day' is like being honoured by my University!

This particular image was shot as part of a long term personal project where I followed a friend, who is a glass sculptor, around - as he worked on his sculptures. This shed is a furnace where they work with hot molten glass. The idea behind this image was to take 'formal' sit-down portraits of the glass workers who assisted in the glass making process. This one was one of the test shots to see how long the exposure needed to be to get those long red streaks in the background while other teams carried blobs of glass from the furnace to their work benches. I found this old chair in another shed, and it formed the 'seat of power' motif that I wanted in the portraits. In the final set of portraits I carried a set of common props for all the crew members - these were a set of wayfarer glasses, a coloured scarf and the metal rod with which they carry the molten glass blobs.

The final set of images were exposed for 23 seconds if I remember correctly and it was a real challenge making the crew members sit for so long. 20 seconds was required for the workers in the background to move from one edge of the frame to the other.

The overall exposure was reduced in post-processing and saturation increased. I will try and post some of the other images here of the final portraits once I get permissions.

I would love to hear your comments.

It certainly makes me very proud to hear what you say, Mihir. I know a number of people have joined the forum here as novices and through the contributions of many others here have progressed their photography and unleashed latent takent like yours

An adventurous project and the test shot seems to have turned out very well.
