Here is a summary of today's DPNow Picture of the Day:

    Frog at work, by Kev

Click on the picture to find out more about the photographer and how the picture was taken.

You might think this is a simple shot of a frog on a patch of grass, but we think it's more than that, especially as the photographer behind this picture freely admits he's a beginner at photography.

Well done and congratulations on your POTD.

Nice composition with plenty space in front of the frog for him to leap into.

I'm also glad you spotted him in time and caught him with the camera rather than the strimmer!

    Pol.

It may be a simple shot but nevertheless some thought has gone into the composition; if not then Kev has an instinct for good composition anyway. Many beginners would have placed the frog slap bang in the center but here we have it almost composed to the rule of thirds, with plenty of space for it to hop into as Pol said. It just needs a tad trimmed off the bottom of the picture. Also there is an implied diagonal, following the frog's body and the line of its gaze to the top right corner, which helps lead the viewer's eye through the picture.

Well done Kev, it's a good one and deserves to be POTD.

I have to be honest, i had been told about the rule of thirds just days before i joined this forum.

So that was running around my brain as i took the photo.

            Anyway thanks
