    Thanks Ian for picking my image for POTD, although I have to agree with you that this subject has been done to death, there are aprox 500,000 similar images on Flickr and lots on Youtube! There are photographers who specialise in photographing water drops who produce some stunning images.

    For any one who has not done this before, I think it is worth trying it as it's a good practice of flash techniques. Plenty of tutorials on Youtube.

    Regards,
    Geoff.

      But as I said, Geoff, you have added something fresh and original to it - have you sent it to Nikon? There is no exif data on the image; presumably you used a Nikon?

        It's an excellent picture. Not so much a drop in the ocean as a drop in the Nikon.

        AND - not only did it drop in the Nikon you actually managed to make it drop smack in the middle of the stripes!

        Well done on so many of the features.

          I love it personally
          Just because cliches are cliches does not make them wrong. I do like walking in the rain.

              Yep, well deserved salon winner too.

              It's actually a very 'classy' image imho and I agree with what you said to Geoff earlier about maybe sending a copy to Nikon.

                Thanks Ian but I don't think it's good enough for Nikon, apart from that Nikon has changed the colour scheme on it's carrier bags

                The picture was taken with a Nikon D700 and 28-200 f3.5-5.6 lens, which is a fairly cheap lightweight lens but very versatile. Reading from the original exif,
                1/200s manual exposure at f18, focal length 100mm, ISO200. I used 2 SB600 flash guns off camera fired using the camera's CLS command mode. I've bought a 105mm macro lens since I took this picture, I may have another go if I can find time.

                I just remembered that I put a slideshow on youtube of different water drop photos:-

                [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-I7Cx2mnVs&hd=1"]Water drops 2 - YouTube[/ame]

                The different colours on the water surface is just the reflection of whatever the backgound is.

                Geoff.
