So who is tempted by the D3200? 24.2 megapixels for your entry-level DSLR; or is it really an entry-level model? Its specifications are remarkable but the D3200 is aimed at beginners. I think the D3200 would also make a good enthusiast's camera - what do you think?

I think that Nikon have jumped back into the megapixel race with Sony and Canon and for no other reason than marketing.

When you consider that the average snapper/photographer only ever has use for 6x4 enprints with the odd 10x8 enlargement and web posting, (hell that describes most of us) it really is overkill and just serves to put pressure on your computer and clog up hard drives.

As to the comment about being able to crop in more, well why not just add a digital zoom feature as on most compacts, after all it's the same thing or is it me that's just jaded with the whole digital marketing scene just lately.

By the way Ian is the viewfinder still like looking down a tunnel as in the D3100, this is what turned me of that model compared to the D5100?

It looks quite a small DSLR, which is a good thing and although not exactly a beginner's price it's hardly entry level specification either. I do tend to agree with Paul about the pixel race. My hard drive is already clogging up with 10 ans 12mp images. Switching to this Nikon would inevitably mean an expensive computer upgrade as well.

Im still trying to understand how to use my D5000 properly
Seriously though i have to ask do i need it or are they saying i need it, i have spent years chasing Pc processor speeds and display cards to suddenly realize I don't need all the add ons and gizmos.
Nope not tempted at all.......well maybe a little!!
