Is the criteria for the competition that the subject shall be miserable looking and staring at the camera?

There seems to be a theme running of girls with animals...

I'll still go and have a good look at the exhibition, as often there are some brilliant images, just not the winners as far as my eye views things...

Most on that link are little more than environmental snapshots, good god the one with the on camera flash shadow on the white living room wall could have been taken by a complete beginner with a point and shoot!

Hopefully the none prize winners are better viewing.
