I was thinking of the same kind of thing. I envisaged having several 2.5" and 3.5" bare drives on the shelf and using them like cartridges.

However, the one time I wanted to organise my files better I was very pleased that I could plug my three 1.5TB drives in all at the same time and just drag-and-drop files all over the place. That would have been trickier with just one dock.

Right now, I'm just using my dock with a 400GB IDE drive - which backs up my "work drive" (a 320GB bus-powered 2.5" Freecom XXS drive).

Further to my problems with the Sata HD dock described earlier. I took delivery last week of a different model, a slightly more basic one from Ebuyer. It seems to work perfectly, and I have now backed up all the Photographs folder on my iMac. As I recall there was about 400gb and it said about 4hrs to complete.

I'm now considering setting LR3 to send a copy of all photos imported to my desktop machine to the Sata drive as well and this should keep them in sync

That's about the time it takes for 1TB to be backed up on my eSATA dock, which is about right when comparing the performance of USB 2.0 and eSATA transfer rates.
