In this picture the old form and majesty of the heyday of the house still fends off the decay and dereliction all around.

There maybe some confusion about the terms HDR and Tonemapping with this photo of Audreys. It is what many people seem to associate with the terms, and yet there has been no merging of images as in the HDR process, or indeed tonemapping.

I think it fair to say, on Audreys behalf, that she has simply used a Lightroom preset, downloaded for free, and something along the lines of THIS one.

What is shock to see my picture here! I had no idea that it had been chosen as POTD.

Thanks Stephen for your comments. It was indeed a free download, with lots of adjustment, as it was too light.

Ian it is actually a derelict hotel in Croatia. Beautifully situated overlooking the sea. I should love to have ventured upstairs!

I like it when the shock is a pleasant one!

I had a look at the site where I guess Audrey obtained the pre-set:

It does say that it's a HDR effect and it's perfectly possible to tone map for HDR with one frame. The process would create two extra versions of the image, one darkened and one lightened and then the three different versions would be merged.

I actually feel the effect Audrey has achieved verges on the OTT, but the image I chose for POTD does survive the process well by having a strong composition, I feel.
