Anyone here been to the show so far - I think it's going really well here; it's all looking very healthy for Focus on Imaging.

I had planned to go Monday as I usually do, but due to circumstances went on Sunday, never again it was just too crowded. Bad enough Monday I knew Sunday would be crowded, but not like it was.
Just went to see targeted stands bought some some Baryta pearl white paper from the Tecco stand lovely paper it is too. Had enough by that time so came home.

If anything, it's busier today than yesterday. Met Josh Bear earlier today - first time we've met after all these years! He was desperate to escape home before the show parted even more cash from him - I will leave him to fill in the details!

Having had to wait in for new phone today, we'll be on our way tomorrow.... anyone else there?

Josh is absolutely right with this comment... I'd taken the phone that I'd been waiting about for, and saved myself several expensive mistakes (particularly in the book department).

However, I didn't buy what I set out to (apart from the remote shutter release) because I bought a bigger camera bag (again... hopefully the last!) and err..... the new Canon 550d. I was kind of thinking of upgrading from the 400d, but when I got to the Canon stand at the show I was swiftly steered away from the 1000d (too basic, apart from the video not as good a spec as what I'd got already) and, since I can't afford the 7D and Jacobs and Cameraworld were having a price war, I got a very good deal

Congrats on the 550D - very nice

Looking forward to seeing some results!

Which bag did you go for in the end?

                    Hi Ian

Fantastic day yesterday, still recovering from the shock of spending that much money!

The bag I got was a Vanguard Upriser, so far it's got camera body with kit lens attached, collapsible tripod, flash and my other two lenses in there ready for a trip to Anglesey Abbey tomorrow.

And here's the first photo I took with my new camera. It's straight out of camera, just converted from RAW. I know it's a bit flat (and I've cut off the top of his ear) but my excuse is I was crackered and it had gone midnight!

Which lens did you use? Did you get a new kit lens with the 550D or are you keeping your old one and is that the 18-55 IS version?

Oh dear... is it that bad? (It is only a snap)

It's the 18-55 IS lens, using iso800 under tungsten light, no flash.

Naw - I wouldn't have been able to tell with a web-res piccy

It's just that the IS version of the 18-55 is a big improvement over the original 18-55, so just in case you were in a position of needing choose...

Hi Carol, if you don't mind me saying so, I'd be careful using such lenses for a wedding, especially group shots or with people close to the edge of the frame. You would be in danger of getting some great distortion
