  • How to test lens sharpness

    Dear All,

Been so long since i have used my 5d mark two properly and successfully (apart from a few shots in Brighton, Curse your fun and portable nature EP1) that I am spending the afternoon re reading the magic lantern guide and testing the sharpness of my lenses.

Hence my post. I have taken a few pictures using a tripod and timer using both my 70-200 F4 L and the 24-105 L and would welcome some advice on how to post pictures on here so people can help me assess sharpness.

I have no idea how to crop at 100%

I have made a note of the focus point and have unprocessed raw files so any advice appreciated.

    Thanks

Come on now Josh, get a grip Don't become one of those pixel peepers. It seems to me that your photos will be suitably sharp with full frame and those lenses.

However, what software are you using? They are generally pretty similar when it comes to cropping. Enlarge till you get to 100% or Actual pixels, then using the crop tool, crop the area you want

OMG. You are right. I have become a pixel peeper!

Well now I have done the work will post anyway. The first picture has caused my missus to impersonate a tazmanian devil with a duster! She saw the picture and I won't repeat what she said before running to get the Mr Sheen.

Oh and yes I have used the "wrong" iso for this. proving my point about re learning the camera.

So 70-200 lens full picture followed by 100% crop. The focus point was on the "P". No processing apart from conversion.

This one the focus point is the K of Kit

Now the 24-105mm. The "K" again

      Thanks for any comments
