I think the bottom line is, that technology, and consumer demands are such that everything we now purchase does more than ever before.
Have you ever tried to buy a mobile phone, that just makes calls?
They now make calls, take pictures, text, email, video, web, games, calculator, calender.....the list is endless!
Its the same story with new televisions, they now access the internet etc.....
Sadly (or fortunately depending on what you like) its the same with cameras. The camera I have just bought, at less than 90quid, does so much stuff that I wont use. It has a 'beauty shot' which removes blemishes. It will also crop for you in camera post shot. It even has the ability to add a memo to a shot!
In my opinion, I see no reason to dislike swivel lcds, they have to only be a bonus. The fact that if you dont like it, it doesnt really get in the way. The ability to swivel it around to protect the screen to my mind is an excellent feature in itself!
