I buy and sell a lot of photo gear on ebay and like you I track prices on items I want to buy. I've noticed that there is an upward trend in prices, with as you say some going for near to new prices.
It's not all bad though I just bought a new Flash Gun for 99p, which I shall be using as the trigger for my latest multi headed flash system.
