  • Windows Vista and EOS utility & zoom browser

    Hello
Has anyone had trouble downloading digital photographs onto the canon zoom browser from windows vista? My last computer had windows XP and the program was super but since changing my computer and now on windows vista I have reloaded the canon software and for some reason I cannot get the pictures to download. Please can anyone help?

Hi Steve welcome to the forum . First thought was do you have the most up-to-date edition of Zoombrowser that's compatible with Vista? You need version 6.1.1a. Check out this Canon link for further info. Hope it helps.

Hi Steve, how did you get on with this?

I remember when I got my Vista laptop I had to download all the updates for the software and the camera to get it to work.

I really don't know what's happening here, I have Canon Zoombrowser 5.8 loaded on my PC running Vista with no problems. I think a word with the Canon help desk might be your best option.

I take it you could run the software under XP.

Perhaps you might like to try this option.

There is some free software from Mictosoft available to download called Vertual PC 2007.
Download this and install, you can then create a virtual computer inside Vista.
This can then have XP installed and runs in a window of its own and operates like an independent computer, any software that's not Vista compatible can be installed and run here.

Its just like a second computer running XP inside your the Visa PC. Its accessed by a click on a short cut on the Vista desktop, couldn't be simpler. Neither one interferes with the other, unlike duel booting which I had serious problems with.
I think it was originally developed for running Windows on a Mac allowing programs to run that don't have a Mac version available.

Might be worth a try the bonus is some other old programs can be used, which is why I have just set it up on my PC & Laptop.

Thanks everyone I have finally been able to use zoom browser. I managed to do it before I retreived your message Patrick but I am now going to download the Vertual PC 2007 as I think it could be useful.

Re: Windows Vista and EOS utility & zoom browser

1st Post...After spending some frustrating time trying to install my old version of Zoom Browser on my new HP Laptop with Vista,
(my Zoom Browser also runs like a dream on my Dell PC with Windows XP), I searched and found this thread...long time reader of
DP Review, but neophyte to the Forums.

I hit that Canon 6.1.1a link, but it would only partially download, a Run File box would show up, I would hit Run, but no go, even
                      with scripts allowed.

I do have the ZB logo on my desktop from my initial Canon install from my old disc, but it won't open...

I then went to Programs, and can open my Zoom Browser EX, with photos from folders, via that specific program under Canon Utilities.
Fairly unhandy and I wished it were "gettable" via my desktop icon. Long story, but maybe one of the Mavens have opins and/or more tips & ideas.
                      Thank You...
                      Best Regards, mD

Ian, Thank you for your follow up...I removed all Canon Utilities/Zoom Browser stuff from this new lap top.
Did a reinstall, but still could not get that Canon link, posted above, to download. But, when I fired this laptop back up, Voila!
...my ZoomBrowser, all my moved pics and all the Canon Utilites are working!

Not sure what I "did" to make it work, other than uninstall, re-install...the odd thing to me is my Canon Utilties disc is an
older version, eg "Ver 12", "Zoom Browser EX 4.1", etc., that came with my 6 year old pocket S50. I have not "updated" this
software upon re-installing on this new lap top, (as in the "6.1.1A" ref'd above), yet it runs well, as it does on my older Dell PC
with Windows XP. All, fwiw. Thanks.

I don't bother with the EOS utility David. I upload from my card into Windows Photo gallery. They get placed into a new dated folder which I view to do a quick sort out and the rest just sit there until such time as I get around to processing.

What advantages do you find using the utlity prog/s
