  • First picture with Canon 5d Mark 2

    Dear All,

So not a great picture but wanted to try out my new camera. Have read the instructions from back to front and now need to read again

In the meantime a picture with a Christmas Feel. Taken handheld at iso 1600.
The room was lit by candles and the tree lights and I wanted to retain the light colour.

    Best regards

    Josh

PS. There are lots of great reviews out there already but in summary yes it has lots of useful functionality that I like over the original 5D. Re the most important bit, IQ, High iso definately better, low ISo, I will let you know.

    Early present Josh?

I can see it hasn't taken long to get to grips with the new camera. I hope you get much pleasure from your pic taking.

    Regards. Barr1e

So the long wait is over then. Looking forward to see what you will post taken with the new camera.

Hi Josh, it's really interesting that Canon has upped the pixel density while improving the noise performance and even improving dynamic range. That's what 3 years of sensor development brings!

According to DxoMark, though, the 5D Mark II does mis-report ISO settings quite severely, so ISO 1600 on the camera is measured by DxO as ISO 1093, which is around two thirds of a stop over optimistic.

I can see noise grain in your shot, though it's not objectionable at all under the circumstances.

Thanks for the info Ian. I should have also mentioned that the original file size was 5616*3744. What I posted was cropped to 2852 * 3744.

            Best Regards

Hope you enjoy the new camera, and looking forward to seeing the results here! (And yes, I'm jealous too!)

What do you make of the "movie recording" facility? Useful? - or one of those "add-on" features you will never use??!

              Regards,

              Neil

Hi. Re the movie function I am strictly an amateur photographer and therefore can never see me using this for business. Howver it has been very useful over Christmas to capture high quality footage of the kids so for me it has real value.

                Best regards
