  • Top Tip - but I bet I'm the only one whose just found out.

I have often struggled to read small text on the various websites.

I recently found out that if I held down the Control key and scrolled upward, the text size is increased.

    I find this is invaluable.

Does everyone know about this? Ahh! I bet I am the only one who didn't.

BTW I use Firefox. I don't know whether it applies to other browsers.

    Hi Audrey,

Never heard of that before, tried it in IE but doesn't work. I use the magnifier tool, part of Vista's Easy Access menu. Do you have to highlight some text first? I'm more confused now than when I first read this. (daft old bat I am)!

My Logitech mouse has a wheel which when pressed and rotated does exactly the same.

I have to hold down the Ctrl key to enlarge as Audrey says.

Gina I have just loaded IE again and when I hold down the control key and press the "+" key it still increases, and if you keep pressing the "+" it keeps on inreasing.

You are holding down the control and not the alt aren't you?

In IE it zooms all the content in the browser, including the pictures

Ok, I was actually using the mouse pointer to scroll the page up, not moving the mouse wheel but there you go, stupidity really exists but I've learned something. Thanks Audrey xx

Well I didn't know and ctrl + mouse wheel works in IE7.

Well, I didn't know..... and I've just shown my 11yr old daughter and she didn't know either. Her response? "cool!"

(My only problem now is I've been scrolling up and down and I can't remember the original size of the fonts!)

                  Regards,

Just leave it at the size that feels most comfortable Neil.

FYI on the Mac it also works, however if you press the cmd key (Mac only) and scroll with the wheel, the whole screen, not just a window, increases or decreases in size, and its focused on the mouse pointer position

Well I'm happy about that. I've been daring myself to tell you for about 2 weeks now, but I thought everyone would know except me and I didn't want to seem stupid. Just shows, it's amazing what we don't know and this tip is so useful to me.
