This may be old news to some but they are price matching again.

Price matching anything whether in another shop or on the net.

Not only that, but, atm and probabaly up to Christmas they are giving an extra 10% off the cheapest price you can find.

This also applies to DSLR's as I am thinking of another one myself and asked only yesterday in a local Buxton branch.

That maybe good news but they seem to make it up as they go along. I also read somewhere that the only website the match is their own. I guess we will have to wait and see how this one goes.

      Re: Jessops

Well as I said I went into a branch yesterday and it's also on their site.

They just told me to bring in a print-out of the best price I could find and that's it. Oh, and in stock at the time.

Know what you mean though about making it up as they go along.

Maybe it's the skeptic in me, but if Jessops wasn't so expensive in the first place they wouldn't need a price matching policy.

They lost my custom a long time ago because of their high prices and, frankly, I can't see myself going back to them and do their job for them just because they can't be bothered to keep their prices down.

Most retailers price their products below RRP, or at the worst *at* RRP. A few, like Jessops, seem to see the RRP as some kind of "minimum price".

Ha ha, brilliant, when I bought my camera a few months back, they said they wouldnt even match their own website!

(still managed to get a discount, but only because I was buying lots!)

Well, the only thing that stopped was the thought of another model that may or may not be coming very soon.

I would like a few more pixels as well.

I was using 2 Eos 3's before I got my first digital camera, a 20d, but find it a backward step from an Eos 3.

I miss the big, super bright viewfinder and of course the auto-focus system the most.

I'll maybe wait to see what comes next...or maybe I won't. If they had of had one in the shop there and then I would of taken it home..

The 1D MkIIn is a very fine camera if you don't mind lugging it around

The AF should be every bit as good as your old EOS-3s too.

If you want a big bright finder, though, what about the EOS-5D?

                      Ian

The AF is the same as far as I know Ian.

I've tried a 5d a while ago but I like Bird Photography and I'm so used to the 1.6 thing now. 1.3 would do though. You can spend a lot less on lenses with a 1.6 crop.

Also the frame rate is slow, and also, the Flash Sync is down to 1/200 and I use that quite a lot for birds also. I know it don't make that much difference but 1/250 is better.

The 8.5 fps makes all the difference Mick. As far as a few morepixels is concerned, I have never found it to be the slightest issue. If I need more I simply upsize in ACR

Yeh, I forgot to mention the framerate.

While your here Stephen I found the images from the 1D had more noise than my 20d at iso 200. I know you had a 20d so what do you see.

I actually used the MKII not the MKIIn.

A few more pixels I think would give me a better 'slide from digital' to use in competitions. I may be wrong there but I think they resize them to 4000 x whatever, so losing quality.

I'm not sure there is any difference between the Mk2 and Mk2N in terms of noise. However, if anything I have found it better than the 20D. The larger sensor with the same photosites also will give you greater dynamic range I feel.

As for file size, as I said knock it up a notch in ACR and you get 4096 pixels or 11.2mp I've never noticed any deterioration in quality, and using the factory default settings in Raw, I get the sharpest pics I've ever had.

If you want I'll send you a sample of an upsized image, or post a link to one here

More pixels do not necessarily equate to better quality in fact squeeze too many into a space and quality can be lost.

                              Give cropping more thought.
You like the 1.6 crop it gets you closer, but think for a moment, using the full frame of the 5D you could crop yourself to 1.6 if required giving you much the same file size as from an APS 8 million pixel sensor, same difference but the extra sensor size for wide angle at your disposal when required.
Up sizing as Stephen points out is a good option.
