  • Books or DVD's for Photoshop?

Can anyone recommend any good DVDs or books that cover various lessons for photoshop? I prefer a DVD as opposed to CD ROM as I can watch them anywhere instead of being sat at the PC.

    Cheers

    Hi Stu,

I often get magazines, that contain video lessons. I have learnt a hell of a lot from them!

I do use the disks that come with Digital Camera Mag, but I sometimes feel like being away from the PC when reading or watching a tutorial.

I'd really recommend Adobe's own 'Classroom in a Book' series, as these give you a proper good grounding.

I mucked about with PhotoShop for ages and just wish I'd started learning it systematically in the first place.

I quite like Martin Evening's 'PhotoShop for Photographers', but think it's more for people who have mastered the basics.

I've used Lynda.com video tutorials to learn quite a few applications.
Their qualityy can be very dependent on who has done the video.
But they do have samples on their web site.

I have been told that Scott Kelbys photoshop CS2 for photographers is a very good book, so it's already on my wish list and looks to be one in this years xmas stocking along with the orange and nuts ( I mean xbox and ps2 games), I shall look forward to reading it and picking your brains throughout, if you don't mind that is.

I know what you mean about 'mucking about with photoshop' I have done that for a while now and want to really get to grips, so I can get an ok shot into a WOW shot, I know PS does not take away the getting it right during the taking of the shot, but helps when you want to go the extra mile with a shot afterwards.

But as coupekid points out the free disks on mags really do help a lot

It's time for me to get away from lots of ok shots, to one I really like and can work with, I suppose that's the downfall of digital as opposed to film, the click click click, instead of looking properly in the first place and really thinking about a shot.

            Cheers

Although i agree that CD/DVD's make explanations simpler i still find that reading books makes the example stick longer in the memory, plus the're easier to go back to and read again .
              I've 3 Scott Kelby books (PS7,CS,CS2) +CS down and dirty (thats 4 )
But one book i go back to a lot and is indispencable if you use layers and layer masks a lot, as i do, is Katrin Eismanns ''masking and compositing'' it's a year old now but Amazon might still have one , a great book if you use PS a lot .

Thanks for the help, I now have Photoshop CS2 for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelby, it's great to read and quite funny too. It lives on the coffee table at the moment and is being picked up at every opportunity.

                Thanks again
