  • How Gutted?

    Imagine this scenario.

Arrived at Gatwick airport eager to board our flight to Namiba (loads of game, glorious sand dunes etc) Can't wait to use the 70-200 2.8 L IS and 2x extender bought in anticipation of said holiday.

Unload car. Hmm, something not quite right? My hand luggage conspicuously absent

Now, what was in said hand luggage - yup, you've guessed it. The 70-200 lens and extender .

Amongst other significant items (but not that significant!) included battery charger, walking sandals and all of hubby's shirts

Once inside the terminal perfume and replacement sunnies did not cut the mustard when it came to placating me , not even several large G&T's took the sting out . So, off we jolly well went with just a 17-50 Tammy!

Moral of this story - there isn't one, but it sure isn't going to happen again

Anyway, I can highly recommend Namiba (stunning sand dunes and more game than you can shake a stick at). Will post some images in my gallery soon. Nuff said. Nice to be back.

      Re: How Gutted?

I blame it on the cat! He hides in inaccessible places if sees suitcases being brought out - hence the reason we pack "in secret" in the spare room! John was loading up the car piecemeal for fear of him scarpering (we were dropping him off at the cattery en-route). Anyway, in the big picture it wasn't a life or death situation (although it felt like it at the time!) I had two batteries with me and managed to bum a couple of charges from other tourists! I was lucky enough to experience some wonderful things and just had to get a bit more creative with the kit I had so, in hindsight, I can't complain too much!

I'm sorry to learn about your problem - but it would seem not too bad in the end - you should have kept that mask on so the cat thought someone else was packing.

I'd strongly recommend anyone to look at Jojo's Namibia gallery, there are some corkers IMHO
