Last holiday I took last year, I had my photos downloaded to DVD & CD at a camera/photographic shop! It wasn't cheap & apparantly TIFF images or raw files could only be saved to DVD, so the assistant told me! I am going on holiday to Europe soon & don't have a laptop to download to whilst away! I have bought a couple of extra memory cards as well as a 4 gigabyte mini travel drive to store pics! Does anyone have any suggestions or names of photographic outlets that don't charge an arm & a leg to make DVD's in Germany, Italy, France or UK! I've also looked up on the Panasonic website regarding memory cards for Lumix FZ30 & by all accounts, takes a maximum of 2 Gigabyte SD card only! It doesn't look as though Flash cards possible choice either??

It may be cheaper to have lots and lots of cards and burn them to CD/DVD when you get home.

Re: Holiday Photography
Thanks Patrick! I bought a Sandisk Ultra II 2 gig SD card on special, therefore relatively cheap for $35! I got home & found a flyer in the post for Australian Post who are advertising Imation Nano USB Drive 4 gig for $30! The assistant in the shop had told me that if ones camera didn't take 4 or 8 gig SD cards, it was senseless buying the bigger USB drives! I don't know how these things work anyhow as am a little illiterate regarding this new fangled technology! When taking pics in RAW files, the 1 gig memory cards are just too small! Perhaps I should shoot in jpeg as I am not able to play with RAW conversions as nothing works for me in my version of Photoshop re converter programs! However, Lumix software converts RAWS & jpegs when transfering from the camera!Jocelyn

Re: Holiday Photography
I've seen an advert for a WD 160 GB Portable Hard Drive which is USB powered! I think I had better find out more about it & how many other things I would need to make it work for me! It seems even with the exchange rate, that the Sandisk II SD cards are half the price in UK! I presume there are a few 7 day shops around there, in major cities anyhow? I appreciate your time & advice, thank you Patrick!Jocelyn

Sorry to mislead you, 7 Day shop is a mail order company which is why I suggested them, thought you could by on line.
They are considerably cheaper on many products than our own high street retail outlets.
Make sure if you buy a portable H/D its a stand alone model so you can download from camera to storage device via its USB without the need for a computer. Jobo, Epson, Canon all produce such devices.
A regular USB external H/D can only work with a PC or Laptop.

A couple of other options open to you Jocelyn are on-line storage facilities. Such as Photobox, where you could upload your photos for both storage, and to order prints when you return home. Or get yourself an MSN space, which means others can view what fun you are having.....and of course get really jealous!!
Then you can re-download the pics when you return home. (double check they are not compressed before doing this though, as I have never done this)
But quite frankly, I wouldnt bother doing any of that with the price of memory now, through Amazon, the price of a 2gig card is about 4 pounds! I would buy about 5 of them, and not worry!

Re: Holiday Photography
I agree entirely. So cheap and small and easy to carry. You also have them for next time you go on holiday, instead of having them burnt to cd/dvd.Originally posted by coupekid View PostBut quite frankly, I wouldnt bother doing any of that with the price of memory now, through Amazon, the price of a 2gig card is about 4 pounds!
