  • glad for not being a sport photojournalist!

I think I'm glad for not being a sports photojournalist. One of those pros showed his gears that he brings to the Olympic games in a website article.
He says he carries the full set of gears all the time/sports while he is in Beijing. - he must be a sumo wrestler before becoming a photojournalist.

I climbed a mountain yesterday with an old 20D with two zoom lenses only (well. also food and soft drinks etc. to be more precise) and the bag was just heavy enough for me and was always thinking of giving up the hiking.

p.s. I see two Canons (1D) and two Nikons (D3). The first one from the left, the tiny camera - is is a four-thirds?

Hi Yoshi - is all that equipment for one person? Why duplicate with both Canon and Nikon? The small DSLR is another Canon - possible a 40D?

When I was in Japan recently when I met up with you, I had:

      Olympus E-3 with battery grip
      Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10
      Leica D 14-150
      Zuiko 14-35 f/2
      Zuiko 7-14
      Zuiko 90-250 f/2.8 (3kg lens!)
      Benro tripod
      Epson photo P5000 photo viewer
      HP 12" laptop (non-functioning )
      FL-50 flash
      Various spare batteries, chargers.
      Kata R-103 backpack
ThinkTank Photo Speed Demon waste/shoulder bag

I couldn't have carried this all at one time, of course. But some how I managed to surivive

Hi Ian, you really had lots of luggages. I just carried a Panny's LX-2 only then.
I think all the gears of the pro are properties of the newspaper firm he works for. I guess both Canon and Nikon wanted them to use their gears and the news agency agreed and all the tragedy was just passed on to the poor (?) photogorapher. He looks however a bit happy. Well that pic was taken before his departure. Now at this very moment, he must be regretting in Beijing to carry such heavy gears. The Olypic game starts in a few minutes btw, I suppose.

I wonder how much are those tele-lenses cost?
Were they purchased second hand or new?
I was born and brought up in Iran, a beautiful country full of history.

There has got to be about 30 - 50k's worth of kit there.

Even if he has hired all the kit how much does he expect to make from his pictures?

Anyoe know the going rate for a good pic?

Pro photographers often Lease their equipment rather than buy
