Couldn't afford NewYork this time, but I am off to Barcelona, any sites I should look out for ... or avoid .....

Thought I'd take the 400D with the Sigma 18-50, and not the 40D. It'll be just for walking around, and maybe a bus tour.

    Anyone been before ?

We'll be around the old Gothic part, and the Parc, Marina areas ..... probably !

Wonderful place. We called in twice from cruise ships - a day each time.

We took the hop on hop off bus. It is fabulous. We went to the Goudie Museum. Definitely worth a visit. So much to photograph.

Obviously Las Ramblas will be on your list, again a picture everywhere you look.

I would love to go again sometime, even if it is for a long weekend.

    Have a good time.

      Re: Barcelona

Thanks for that Audrey, I'll add them to the list.
Is it fairly safe to walk around with the camera or worth gettting a
'non-photographic' looking bag to put it in ?

I've looked on a few sites, and there are some alarming stories ....
.... I suppose it's the same anywhere, in any major city

We get a bit spoilt living on a small island, as the chance of getting your bag
snatched here is about the same as winning the lottery

It can get a bit rowdy on a weekend

        Re: Barcelona

I understand that pickpockets are rife on Ramblas Jay - not sure about "bag" snatchers (I think Las Ramblas is primarily pedestrianised). I don't know whether they've finished the work on La Sagrada Familia and therefore got rid of all the scaffolding, but that is one wacky piece of architecture . Can't be more specific about the city as I have only fleetingly visited it after arriving on cruise ship. We went straight to the airport with only a quick diversion via the cathedral. Everyone I know that has visited comes back enthusing though. Enjoy!

Well I just use a large handbag

I am attaching a pic of Las Ramblas and a couple of the Goudie Park.

As you can see it is busy. I was taking photos, so I had my camera around my neck most of the time.

There were young glue sniffers in the adjacent park across the road from the start of Las Ramblas. I just think you need to be aware and hold on to your gear.

La Sagrada Familia still had scaffolding around it. I expect it still does as I believe they were finishing building it.

            Re: Barcelona

That is strange .. I have just this morning been looking at Barcelona because Ryanair are doing cheap flights at the moment. I found this site interesting.

Goudie Park looks like an ideal place for photographers Audrey, I wonder how easy it really is though with so many tourists. I guess if I want a clear shot, so will everyone else, and it all takes time.

              Re: Barcelona

Certainly looks busy ..... the 400's fairly small, and I'll be using ther small lens so it won't stand out much.

That building is certainly wierd !!
Very 'organic', but makes you wonder how much wine they drink to come up with an idea like that !!

Probably not going until the end of September, so maybe quieter ...
