  • Surveillance and photographers meeting, Manchester

More than a few members have commented on the problems photographers face and the growth of surveillance in our society. As some of you will know I'm currently doing a series about cctv, and there's a meeting in Manchester coming up that may be of interest.

RedEye (the North West photographers network) are giving over their next free Manchester public meeting to cctv/surveillance and harassment of photographers.

    It's on 9 July from 6:30pm at MDDA 117-119 Portland St, M1 6ED

I'll be showing my current series about cctv, John Perivolaris will be talking about surveillance and Christian Payne will talk about live streaming of photography and video.

Almost 24 hours since this post and not a single reply, its small wonder our rights get eroded with such apathy, and I'm as guilty as the next.

Was it Edmund Burke who said "all that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing"? ;-)

To be fair, I think the original post is really just a 'heads up'. If people are in Manchester, I think it will be an interesting meeting.
RedEye is more at the documentary/art end of photography, whilst dpnow probably appeals more to the hobbyist, but I think the subject's of wider interest.

Its a topic that should be taken up as much as possible by all photographers otherwise restrictions will be come law by inactivity.

Personaly CCTV in public places doesn't worry me, I go with the theory they only effect someone if that someone is doing something they shouldn't.
So as far as I'm concerned they can CCtv me while I lawfully take pictures, unmolested by the authority's in a public place.
