looking for a replacement for the 10d....it's playing up again, with the 40d being one of the obvious choices. whilst browsing, spotted that canon have a new cash back promotion, dropping 100 squidlies off the price of the 40d.
this leads me to wonder whether canon are about to launch a successor to the 40d. i know the 450d is due this month, but for what i need, the frame rate is too slow, but more importantly, the buffer size is considerably less than the 40d.

anyone care to speculate on perhaps a 50d being released and the cash back promotion being canon's way of shifting old stock? not too sure if they've done this in the past.

Doubt that very much, its only six months or so since the launch of the 40D thats much too soon for a replacment even for Canon.
Its reportedly selling very well, I heard Purdey's sold on the Sunday alone at Focus their entire stock of 400 cameras and were forced to restock Monday from Canon by organizing a van to pick them up. Add to that the other sellers like Jacobs etc then sales could be well excess of 2500 probably lots more in 4 days.

No I think its more in response to Nikon's and others own cash back offers and aimed at holding market share, it called competition.
Canon I think have been a little shocked at Nikon gaining so much ground on them lately, and the likes of Sony's new models offering further potential competition on a big scale.

I'd agree with Patrick, it far too soon for Canon to replace the 40D. I'm not even sure there is a market for something inbetween the 40D and say the 1D Mk3. Now thats the camera for you Dave, even a second hand 1DMk2N would be great I reckon
