In Stephens post "Ramblings on Obsessive Brand Loyalty" he mentioned Focus, who from the forum are going and what days, I shall be there Monday, it would possibly be rather nice to meet up with one or two and chat over a coffee or even a beer.

I might be there on Monday, but my main day will be tomorrow (Sunday) and I will have a show report up during the evening.

Hi guys, I'm going tomorrow too. (All day on my own with my credit card smouldering away in my handbag no doubt! )

I was at Brum Int Train station yesterday, Sunday, at 2.30 and didn't even know it was going on. I like to keep up with these things!

Yeah - bit frustrating that - probably because I decided to do such a big report (42 pages) and I've got a very irritating cold - which going to the show made worse

This is also the first time I used Lightroom exclusively for all the image processing and I'm sure I will speed up over time.

              Re: Focus 2008

I enjoyed browsing the photos Ian, I won't be at the exhib again this year so I suppose it was the next best thing. I have worked at the NEC and find the lighting in the halls not esp good for photographs. Auto White Balance often does not give a great result, and when its mixed with flash too, you struggle to get a satisfactory result. I seem to recall experimenting with a custom WB of around 4000.

I noticed though that several of your shots were suffering from WB issues and am surprised that Lightroom was not able to adjust them better. I do acknowledge however that time was at a premium

Yes, if I had spent more than 5-10 minutes on each one I might have produced slightly better results - just didn't have the time. The white balance was different on every shot, practically. I tried not to use flash where possible as you get a more natural result, but with so many lights of different temperature its impossible to get a perfect result. I usually try to make shadows neutral, but that often doesn't work in conditions like this. So I usually try to prevent skin tones from looking too nasty and this does mean some surrounding areas suffer as a result. It's all a case of give and take. Maybe I'll do it all in mono next time
