..... or is anyone else finding the site is sometimes slow again?

I've been finding things dragging very slowly after I've hit the 'submit' button to submit a response in a thread.

It's not every time, seems to be erratic event but I'm just wondering if anyone else if finding things can be slow again (as they were before the recent host and server changes)

No, it's not just you Pol, I've noticed it too over the last few days. At first I thought it was my work's internet connection (I often have a quick look from there) but I've also noticed it on my home connection this weekend. I'm on 20Mbit Cable here so I don't think it's a bandwidth issue.

I don't think it's quite as slow as it was before though...

It is quite slow again Pol! It has taken hours to upload my latest batch of pics! Mind you....its the most I've ever downloaded in a day I think! However, each batch of 5 took much longer after hitting submit button, as you say!

Thanks for the reassurance it isn't just me. I'm at that stage of wondering if my connection, the line or my getting-on-a-bit PC might have been to blame .... 'cos I don't really wanna change anything atm

It isn't as bad as it was before the recent upgrades and it isn't right across the board either. When it does happen, which seems to be erratic, it's as though the page or submision loading sticks - then it all opens up suddenly.

Maybe it's just a temporary thing - probably is as the site flies along most of the time.

Everything seems OK for me at present, though it was a bit slow yesterday afternoon when I was using someone elses BB connection on my lappy.

Aye. I'm not convinced the website is to blame. I'm sometimes finding one or two other sites dragging a bit during some evenings and at key times over the w/e.

It's good today again - back to normal so far.

Maybe its the fact that every Tom, Dick & Gertrude is on broadband these days,those servers can only take so much, maybe time to go back to the old modem, and save a few bob!

The new server is about 10 x more powerful (it has four CPUs instead of one, each is more powerful than the old single one and there is more, faster, memory and a more efficient backbone connection to the Internet).

I have just looked at the CPU status and it's just ticking over really. On Monday we did publish a couple of sets of full size sample image downloads. This resulted in triple the normal daily bandwidth consumption, but to be honest that's not a lot considering the new set up we have.

Yesterday I did receive over a thousand junk mails (undelivered spam emails returned to our server because fake dpnow.com email addresses were used to identify the fake sender) - again, I thnk our server can cope quite easily with that.

Our other site, e-group.net.uk, was down for two days two weeks ago because of a suspected denial of service attack (one of the ports was being hammered by someone) - but mainly because a) I wasn't around to notice it and b) our hosting company failed to alert us of the problem. I only mention this because we have implemented a fix to prevent this problem and applied it to DPNow as well, so I doubt it's that.

How are things today?

I've been out, just got in and went online about 10-15 minutes ago and everything seems ok at the moment. pages loading normally so all I need to test now is how quickly/easily this reply performs after I press the 'submit' button.

It never crossed my mind you might have been denied service, mail bombed or heavily spammed. Nasty!
