  • Quick Monopod Question........

    Hi all.

I have just had delivered a brand new Manfrotto Monopod. I got it as a free gift for a subscription for a new camera mag.

Had a look at it and never having owned one before there is no 'top' to it!!

So, what am I looking to buy so I can start using it....?

    Cheers..

The Manfrotto tripods and Monopods never come with an attached head so you need to choose your own and buy them separately.

Look specifically for a (Manfrotto) "Monopod Head" something similar to THIS one should be ok - unless anyone has any alternative suggestions for a suitable head.

Which model is the pod? Have you tried attaching the camera directly?

        Re: Quick Monopod Question........

I have a ball & socket head for my monopod but I have used it without it (when I forgot the head). Not sure about yours but the bare screw on the top of mine (i.e. the one you mount the ball head on) also fits the camera. Great workaround for landscape orientation but not so clever for portrait

Ball & socket heads with a revolving base are much easier to use than those without IMHO. (guess which one I bought!)

Now that's 'andy 'arry. Not seen that style before, I simply must have one! Cheaper than a ball & socket too!

Hi all, thank you for the quick replies!

            It is a 676B model.

The top of it is not like a screw fir. It is a small round thing with four lines on it, I will try and upload a photo of it later. It is too big to fit direct to the camera and it hasn't got a screw thread on it.

That will be a plastic cap protecting the thread mount, that will either pull off or unscrew to reveil the thread, this will screw directly to the camera.
              cheers
              Ash.

This is the one I use on my Manfrotto Neotec Monopod. It really is a must have IMHO, I don't think I could cope with a ball head on the monopod I've seen people not using any sort of head though, and even screwing it into the camera tripod bush even when using a long lens with a tripod bracket. How they do portrait style images I just don't know

I ordered one yesterday! I've used my ball head on my monopod before but, you're right, it's not ideal - I just didn't realise this type of head was on the market.
