I've seen plenty appear that didn't have a rating of 8+
I've also seen some with low rating and some with no rating whatsoever, including some of my own.

Interesting I didn't realize the picture above had to get a 8+ rating to be included, if thats the case picture of the day is now irrelevant and the space could be used for something else.

I think the general idea was to replace the POTD with a randomized picci from the gallery so that the front page displayed a new image every day. Also that the displayed gallery image changes each time you refresh the front page. I must admit I'm a bit of an addict and like going to the front page and refreshing it a few times before coming into the forums.
However - I've been mulling over the situation regarding the POTD space and I'm not so sure I'd agree it's become irrelevant. How about it if Ian could use the same script he uses for randomizing the gallery picci and therefore randomizing the old POTD images. That would mean there would be two different images on the front page each time you hit it. I don't feel it matters if the original POTD date appears with the pictures either. It would simply be stating which day that picture was awarded the POTD spot - same as the current front page does regarding the one from last September. A sort of 'historical space' with any previous archived POTD' being shown at random.
How about it Ian? Would it be possible to randomize, as described above, if all the previous POTD pics and pages are still in the same folder within the webspace?
Pol, good thinking, though I think there are plans to restart the POTD when the site has been moved to the new server next week. Personally I think the space could be put to good use promoting the Golden Gallery, which is due for more pushing soon too

That's an even better idea imho - especially the part about the GG.
Far be it from me to be an old nag,,but I'd rather see a POTW (week) than have a POTD (day) slot that wasn't or couldn't be updated every day. My personal view is that a POTD is a helluva lot of work and it's also highly dependent on a) having enough suitable images b) relying on the relevant togfas agreeing to the use of their picci and their replying fairly quickly to the webmaster with the requisite descriptive paragraphs and/or info about the chosen picci.

Or as Stephen suggests use the apace for the Golden Gallery promotion but whatever it is set up to do, DO IT.
