  • Pain In The Back

Perhaps I spend too much time sitting down, over the last few weeks I have been getting aches in my lower back and they seem to be getting worse.. With my new job and the amount of photo stuff I do online I know this is down to the length of time I spend in front of the screen. I admit I do not take the breaks that I should.
Does anyone have knowledge of these "posture" chairs, kneeling or otherwise that would have the support necessary for someone that wastes so much time. I have read a lot of reviews but would prefer to have first hand information.
Hope you can help and sorry to be a pain

    Re: Pain In The Back

    Hi Tom

I work at a desk all day. In January I changed jobs to another company and at my old company I had the same chair for over 10 years!!

I hadn't been long at my new company and by April I was getting serious back problems. My company has an Ergonimics officer who came along and had a look at my seating position.

I now have a new chair (it has lots of whistles and gadgets for the correct posture setting). I would from experience have a look around local to your area to see if there is someone can help.

    Cheers

Thanks very much to both of you. JSR are you able to point me to the actual model you found success with. I will spend what it takes.

It's not just your lower back at risk if you sit in one place to long. You're also at risk of 'throwing off' a DVT in one or both legs. You MUST keep get up and walk around the room regularly. Just a couple of minutes every 10-15 minutes could save you all sorts of future problems. No excuses - just do it. Consider yourself nagged.

I use one of the high-backed 'Executive' chairs from Viking - we both use them. We have 3 altogether and we change them around occasionally. David likes the arms attached, I don't. All our chairs rock so we can lean back and relax as well as extending the legs. We also remind each other to get up and walk about very regularly.

I buy from Viking, too, but the reason I didn't for my chair is because Viking just sell so many different ones. You could spend all day picking just the right one, then turn the page and find a better one. (My previous chair came from Viking.)

You might want to try the 'kneeling' chair, which keeps the weight on your knees and your back straight. You should be able to find a visual on the internet and they have been available off eBay in the past.
