    Re: Hi Everyone...........

    Welcome Mike.

Nice little picture of your granddaughter with her flag.

I have a two year old grandson and find it is quite difficult to get poses, so almost all I have taken have been grabshots, which have worked very well and are natural.

The point I am making is that on most of mine I have had to crop to get the best out of the photograph. You have a lot of foliage either side of the child, which imho you don't really need. It's easy to get excited and just snap, but if you held your camera a little lower, you could have included her feet. Mind you I have missed limbs off many a time.

Another thing I do, particularly at that age, when they are running all over, is use the "Continuous shooting" setting and you are almost sure to get at least one reasonable one, (I am assuming you are using digital) and you can delete the rest.

Why not try cropping a little and reposting it?

    Hope this helps.

Lovely shot Mike, for future reference, I would advise posting shots such as this in the 'Critique' section.

Super shot, you definately caught the characteristics of the little lass!
As Autumn has said, always avoid cropping off feet etc. Sometimes getting down really low helps with that as its always nice to have the feet stood on something.

Background is also important, at present the brick wall, and the glass dome growing out of her shoulder arent really that pleasing, next time, I would try and position her in front of the foliage hedge. A portrait crop may also help this shot.

As I said though, lovely characteristic snap, and keep them coming, I hope my ramblings help!

Hi Mike, Just like to add to the comments above. Try holding your camera in the portrait position. ie turn it sideways. This will correct most of the points made by the others. Also means that you will not have to crop so much and that way retain better quality. Hope that helps.
