  • OK, so this is a bit ageist....

On Tuesday I was in the Peak District with 'er indoors and her mum who lives near Lincoln. We had just gone out for the day and I was looking forward to taking a few pics.

I joined my favourite road across the area, the Snake Pass, at Glossup and got quite excited about the weather, mainly nice warm-coloured autumn sunshine with some equally nice white (and black!) clouds. There had also been a little rain so the sky was nice and clear - you could see for miles. I knew there weren't many places to stop on the route but there were some tantalising glimpses of superb autumn scenery as we left the higher regions at the start of the journey.

Then the dreaded words from the back of the car - "I need the loo" said the 78 year old MIL.

Do you know how many loos there are on this road? None until you're nearly in Sheffield! (not being a local I daren't go off-route looking for one).

We eventually found a pub and "we" decided to have lunch (while the light faded) and then "we" decided to go to Sheffield's answer to Lakeside - Meadowhall. How I enjoyed that.....MIL bought a skirt, 'er indoors a couple of tops and we left to a nice black sky, a setting sun and a nice-ish sunset at 70 mph on the A1.

What kind of idiot drives across the Peak District with half a ton of camera gear in the boot and doesn't stop to take even one picture? No, don't answer that.

Next time I'm going on my own - at least I'm happy to nip into the woods when nature calls....

You should have known better Stuart, even if you had made it without the need for the Loo, you would definitely have been up against it with the SWMBO and the MIL in tow. The odds were stacked against you from the start.

I'm your kind of idiot. Been there, done it, got the tea-shirt . Photography is for those that travel light, ie without the wife. Or you can always do what I do, play catchup all day trying to keep her in sight.

You are very brave to say that Julia. It is just what I have been thinking all day.

Yes that is the answer, other than go alone, I always end up with EARACHE AND A HEADACHE, from constantly being nagged by the family to keep up.
