Lens from USA?

My wife and her sister are off to New York after Xmas, I'm wondering if it's worth getting them to pick a lens up for me while they are there.

Has anyone done this, is it worth doing or are the savings not that great plus do warranties become void on leaving the country they are purchased in?

Quite probable that the lens maker has branches or affiliations in the UK. In this case it might be worth investigating if a warranty can be transferred before making the purchase.

It's all depend on the lens you are going to purchase, and how much you can save, but I'll rather buy them here to support our traders.

Cheers for the replies, it all depends on how long I can wait in the end, I've saved the cash and it's burning a hole in the bank!
