  • Which Camera Magazine

OK, I am a bit of sucker for magazines, car, gadget, photography, even gardening, and spend a fortune on them, well, now I am having to whittle my collection down to buying one or two from each genre, Evo, and Auto Express for cars, T3 magazine now again as a treat for gadgets, but, I am unsure as to which is the best photography magazine.

So my question to all you is, do you purchase regularly any photography magazines, if so, which ones do you favour? and maybe why?

At the moment, I am buying a few, but tending toward Digital Camera Magazine......

I did take up a subscription for Digital SLR User but at the time there was a promotion on which gave a huge discount and a free camera bag.
I have only one more issue to come and have no plans to re-subscribe.
Must admit to finding some useful snippets but I don't think it would justify paying the full shelf price.

I don't take any Digital Photography magazines except on rare occasions if there is something in particular that interests me, and I'm usually disappointed.

I do take Black & White photographer every month and have done since the first issue, and still have every copy.
I have just recently started taking AP on a regular basis, how long I will do so I don't know. Until I get bored with it again I suppose.

AP's new editor, Damien Demolder, and I shared a bus back to the long term car park at Heathrow airport this evening (we were both returning from the Sony Alpha A700 launch in Italy) - anyone who gets AP regularly will know that the magazine has changed quite a bit recently. The redesign and change in editorial content is, in my opinion, positive.

I contribute regularly to What Digital Camera, which I think does a good job balancing photography, advice and reviews. The market leader is Digital Photo, which relies mainly on its cover disc.

              Re: Which Camera Magazine

I used to buy Digital Camera or Digital Photo Magazine on a regular basis, but they are very expensive & quite difficult to come by in our neighbourhood at $15 and upwards! These only arrive in Australia 2 or so months after publication! I bought Practical Photography for the first time last week & found it to be really informative! Again the latest copy on the shelves here is July issue!

Perhaps the new layout of AP is why I am buying it again, I must say though the front cover does not stand out from the crowd quite like the last format, I find myself looking harder on the magazine shelf than I used to to find it.

What I find about magazines and this is something to do with me and the many years I have been making photographs, is they become repetitive.
True to say there is always the free tutorial disks, but since I can do generally what I want with Photoshop at this time, they hold no great influence.
That is not to say I wont want to learn other techniques in the future that hold no interest now.

Black and White Photography is good. I particulary like Eamon McCabe.

                      Re: Which Camera Magazine

Hi. I used to buy Amateur Photographer back in the days when I was seriously into photography, I used to get so much inspiration from it, just looking at the pictures and seeing how they were taken i.e F numbers, exposure etc etc, all this info was printed with each photgraph so I used to go out and 'copy' the picture using the same settings. I used to love doing that, learnt a lot from that too, gave me the inspiration for some great pictures.

Now though, more recently I have bought 'Digital Camera#. Not that impressed but to be honest not had a look at any others to compare. I will be going out soon to buy a handful to choose what one I like.

Most 'digital' mags I have looked at have too much geared towards Photoshop etc, if you take a great picture there should be no need to do anything to it is there!

Just kidding but if you do not like that side of things I can see people being put off by all that.

By the way, if any editor of any of the mags out now wants to send me a copy of an issue then I would be more than happy to have a look through to help me decide what to subscribe to
