I have a Pentax 35 mm camera with two Pentax lenses a 28-80 mm f 3.5 & an 80-320 mm f 4.5 & I am not sure whether or not to utilize these two lenses .

At the moment I have a Canon Powershot S5 IS .

I was wondering which were the best two or three makes for the beginner or intermediate photographer ?

Which lenses would be the most versatile and most widely used ?

Which of the flashes (with a hot-shoe) would be the best all round one ?

I am also thinking of purchasing a multiplyer, although it may not be used that much. Is there any one in particular that is better ?

I could also ask you which of the stock photography website's / companies are better and can make a person some money.

    Thank you very much Craig
    Hi Craig,

I think you have asked some extremely pertinent questions and DPNow needs a resource to help people like yourself deal with this kind of quandary.

There is no one answer as we're all individuals with different needs and preferences.

I'll think hard about this and work on an article that will hopefully help people to make their own minds up in an informed and logical manner.

The most important preliminary question that needs to be answered is - what kind of photography do you intend to do? Portraits, action/sports, wildlife, macro, landscapes, etc. Without knowing this, nobody can give you a particularly usefyl answer.

Re: Questions from someone new to DSLR's

I'd always suggest people start with one lens until they know exactly what else (if anything) they need and why.

Personally I'd avoid a very wide range zoom lens and go for something more modest that might be better quality, have a faster aperture and be easier to lug about. Given the deals available on some kit lenses I'd probably be content with that.

If the camera has a built-in flash I'd use that first. I think there's a lot to be said for looking at the camera manufacturers own external flash guns.
