I'm off to Egypt a week on Monday and looking for some advice. I'm going on the Nile from Luxor to Aswan and back, seeing all the usual bits, temples and tombs etc. Also going to Cairo for a few days to see the Pyramids and museums and what 16million people in one place look like!

I have the Nikon D80 with the 18-135 lens and I'm thinking of a few extras, maybe even another lens. I've been looking at the Nikon 70-300mm F4.5-5.6VR but would I need that amount of zoom or would the 18-135 suffice?

I'm going to get a polarising filter would any other filters be useful?

Also need another memory card or two.

Any other sugestions apart from a portable air-con unit?

You lucky fella - that's one place I haven't been to yet (although my mother tells me I was conceived on the Nile!!) anyhow I would still like to get there and see it with my own eyes.

An amazing place to visit. I'd agree with the immodium/money/water etc. advice as it can be physically a bit demanding.

Equipmentwise I'd be tempted to travel light, if you do get another lens be careful of dust when changing it. (or opening the card slot).

I'd take spare batteries and an adaptor to recharge them. And you'll need to keep the camera clean on the outside as well as in.

Sometimes contrast can be a problem.

I usually shoot RAW, but might be tempted to shoot some as JPEGs to save card space.

Thanks, I was a bit apprehensive about changing lenses in that environment, didn't think about problems changing the memory cards. Just dust off the outside or should I use some sort of cleaner?

I think I'll stick with the 18-135 lens, get a couple of 2gig cards so I'll have 3, I have a spare battery and I've got to get a filter as well.

Hopefully I'll get some good shots or the Mrs will have it all on ebay when I get back!
