  • How to get on the ladder.....

I would like to take some shots of the local football team here in Brighton. Would I simply call the club and ask if I can turn up and take pictures or would it be better to ask the local paper to follow their photographer for a match or two just to get an idea of what kit to use and general tips etc.

Also would like to take pictures of bands, we have a lot of top bands playing here in Brighton, how does one get to be a photographer at a gig, do you need accreditation from a mag or paper or something?

Thinking of kit now, I will have a Canon 400D with the 18-55 lens. I will also buy a EF90-300 lens and have here a EF28-80 and an EF35-105. Now, I can hear the sniggering from here but I don't want to do this for the money, will leave that to the pro's, I just want to get my old enthusiasm back from my film SLR days!!

    Any tips, advice etc etc......

    Thanks.

I think both your own suggestions are sensible ones. You are taking a bit of a risk in just turning up, especially on a match day. Compacts wouldn't be a problem, but a DSLR with lots of lenses could attract attention of the unwanted kind.
